Cheesy Bird Videos

3/21/2018

Cheesy Bird Videos is my post over at the Inkwell today. Just a few brief videos to show our feathered friends doing the same kinds of things that people do...like popping out and scaring others...or being a bully...nothing highly emotional that will take the edge off your day, just a few minutes to clear your mind as you go.

All of the videos are shown at normal speed, and then slow motion so you can see what really happened. Not award worthy. Simply entertaining.

You can see them at

Video Wassailing at the Inkwell

11/19/2014

So what does the 1949 version of the movie Little Women, the 1963 Christmas with the Chipmunks Vol. 2 album, a vintage video game, waffles, beans, children singing, and Christmas lights all have in common?

I'm featuring them on my post, It's A-Wassailing not A-Waffling today as they all contain a version of the Christmas song, Here We Come A-Wassailing.

I'm a bit worried about the Christmas in the desert one though as I'm sure someone will deem it is in poor taste, and although a small part of me agrees, I've raised four kids, 2 of them boys, and I love hearing them laugh, especially over natural and innocent incidents.

Anyway, if you want to share your thoughts, head on over to Inkwell Inspirations and see for yourself.

Here We Come A-Wassailing is the title of my latest story which is found in A Cup of Christmas Cheer Volume 4 Heartwarming Tales of Christmas Present, Guideposts Books, Oct 2014.   Check out my story page for more info.

Historic Winter Sports: Ice Sailing

1/20/2014

I'm blogging at the Inkwell again with another post on my Historic Winter Sports series, this time on the fun and adventure of ice sailing.

The images I've used were found in different library systems and archives fonds and I can't say enough about the people who work to bring these sources to the public. Today's images are courtesy of the:
  • Archives of Ontario
  • City of Toronto Archives
  • Canadian Heritage Gallery
  • Wikipedia - Ice Boats, Icicle
  • The Mary MacKenzie Collection of the Lake Placid Public Library
  • Public Archives and Records Office of Prince Edward Island
  • Maritime History of the Great Lakes

As well, I've included a video over on my Inkwell Inspirations Ice Sailing post which gives the feel of skimming across the ice in a modern ice boat made for racing.

Here's one photo you won't find over there...it's a stereoview from 1900 and if you go to the page I found it, you can read a description put out by the Keystone View Company.

I'm a Guest Blogger Today

11/28/2011

Today I'm guest blogging on Rose McCauley's blog.  The decision on what to write about on someone else's blog took a lot of thinking, but in the end our prairie weather and the time I got punked by a porcupine in a blizzard stood out as something I felt would hold reader's interest.

My questions for discussion over on Rose's blog are:
Have you ever seen a sundog? Felt the cold bite of a -40C/F wind? Tasted a snowflake before it touched the ground?

Join us if you have a minute or two. All comments left before next Monday are eligible for my giveaway of a new copy of Lynette Eason's Love Inspired Suspense, Threat of Exposure.

And don't laugh too hard at the video. <grin>

Janet Tronstad Author and Songwriter

11/16/2011

Janet Tronstad is the author of the long-running Dry Creek series from Harlequin Love Inspired and Love Inspired Historicals. She's also one of the writers I've known the longest after joining the Harlequin Community back in 2006.

What I didn't know was that Janet has a hidden talent as a songwriter and recently released a video. Here's the official blurb:
Janet Tronstad is the award-winning author of a long-standing series of Harlequin Love Inspired novels set in the fictitious town of Dry Creek, Montana. Romantic Times magazine calls her series witty with unique characters. She wrote the lyrics to the song you will hear and her good friend, David White, wrote the music and performed the song. The photographs you will see are almost all from the Depression era (US Farm Security Administration - Office of War Information Color Transparencies).

http://youtu.be/CUHryjL-pug

Janet has taken this one step further though, because the Montana Quilting song - which is fast becoming known as Denim Sky - is only partly contained in this YouTube video. The complete version is available  on Amazon as an MP3 download for 99 cents. Just click on MP3 downloads and type in Janet Tronstad.
Isn't that a unique way to promote books? After reading most of Janet's  books, I can honestly say I've enjoyed every one of them. This song is the same. I hope she writes many more of both.

Deeanne Gist: Research and Life

10/19/2011

Deeanne Gist made a stop at Inkwell Inspirations today as part of her blog tour for her new release, Love on the Line.

It reminded me that I never posted the video I took of Deeanne back in July when she did her Bottoms Up: a Look at Victorian Women’s Clothing from the Inside Out workshop at the Romance Writers of America (RWA) conference in New York Cityalthough I talked about it at the Inkwell with my post Victorian Underwear Research Workshop.

Now that I have Deeanne's permission to show you this short clip, I'm posting it here to let you see how thorough this author is with her research.

By the time she finished dressing, she wore an outfit any woman would be proud to wear down an 1860's street, hoop skirt, gloves and all.

Then as I went to check out Deeanne's Facebook page today, I saw this video made when she crashed her daughter's bachelorette party.
This video is so full of life. And I realized how much fun Deeanne injects into the lives of those around her.  If she can do that with real life, imagine how imaginative and entertaining she can be with her books.  Add that to her deep emotions and tension, and you know why she's a best-selling author.
