Mary was my agent for five years and I treasure her tutelage. She took my hand and led me through the hoops of the publishing industry. We would have walked faster, except I'm a slow writer until the deadline approaches and then suddenly, I'm zapped with ideas that pull my story together in ways I never thought of weeks or months earlier. Mary is the exact opposite. I'm sure she wanted to send scores of emails telling me to write faster, but that's not her way. She let me work at my own pace and deadlines were met.
I think what I appreciate most is her encouragement in my writing skill. She understood my doubts, shyness, and lack of confidence, and encouraged me in so many different ways, in private and in public. Mary was in my corner and I felt it every step of the way.
Thank you, Mary, for taking me under your wing and teaching me to fly. Thank you for being my friend and mentor. Thank you for accepting me.
I wish showers of blessings on your life as you enjoy your new freedom to spend time with church and family. You are a special lady, full of class, and I'll always think of you with fondness.
Warm hugs,
Anita.
